Team Herbalife Triumphs at the Herbalife Triathlon Los Angeles
An estimated field of 5,000 competitors, including Independent Herbalife Members, independent Distributors, employees and athletes sponsored by Herbalife, like Heather Jackson, swam, biked and ran in the Herbalife Triathlon Los Angeles. Elite to novice competitors from 21 states and 17 countries took on the course from Venice Beach to L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, home of the Herbalife corporate offices.
This is the second consecutive year Herbalife has been the Title Sponsor of one of the most popular triathlons in the United States. “The Herbalife Triathlon Los Angeles is a terrific opportunity for everyone to compete in a world-class event and experience Los Angeles in a unique way,” says Herbalife Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Johnson.
Triathlon courses were set at two distances: Olympic (swim 0.9 miles; cycle 24.8 miles; run 6.2 miles) and Sprint (swim 0.4 miles; cycle 14.1 miles; run 3.1 miles). Hundreds more competed in separate bike-only (24.8 miles) and 5K running races.
As part of the Herbalife Triathlon Los Angeles Regional Athlete Program, Herbalife regional corporate teams invited two sponsored athletes from each of their regions to the race. Working together, the regions and athletes promoted the race locally and encouraged Herbalife Members to pursue their own fitness programs.
Herbalife is also developing a new way to help people get active. “I’ve been training with the Herbalife ‘5 Weeks to Run a 5K’ program,” says Herbalife employee and 5K finisher Justin Tropea. The program teaches novice runners how to safely and effectively train for a 5K race in five weeks. “I have been an avid athlete for most of my life, but never trained properly for a running competition. So, it provided me with the structure I needed to build up to my target finish time and it was a great way to connect with my co-workers,” he says.
