When I first came to work at Herbalife Innovation & Manufacturing (H.I.M.) Winston-Salem in March 2014, I was immediately impressed, if not overwhelmed. The plant is vast. At more than 800,000 square feet, there’s enough room to host 12 football games at once! The sheer size really is testament to the growth opportunity for the company.
And it’s a beautiful, hi-tech facility with lots of amenities and care given to every detail. Because H.I.M. Winston-Salem is a clean environment where products are manufactured, the equipment and work areas are immaculate.
As impressive as the facilities are, what really stood out to me was the team environment. I’ve worked in other corporate environments, but never in one where the feeling of family and team is so strong. It’s very different here. Instead of being overly competitive, everyone gives each other a hand. That’s what I love the most.
When I’m onboarding new employees and answering questions, that’s what many of them also mention; the teamwork you see throughout Herbalife Nutrition.
After three years, I can tell you that my job is never boring and no day is like any other. Every day at lunch, I work out for 30 to 35 minutes in our company fitness center. I mix in cardio and strength training and focus on eating healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. Over time, I’ve lost weight and improved my fitness, and my colleagues have been so supportive throughout.
Staying active and involved in the community is part of the culture here at H.I.M. Winston-Salem. Every year at Halloween, we sponsor a Zombie Run to benefit the local YMCA. The company and employees are also involved in supporting the YWCA and other community organizations.
Here are just some of the ways that the company and employees are making a impact in Winston-Salem. In February, the American Red Cross hosted an employee blood donation drive with Herbalife distributors participating as volunteers. Last fall, the operations team participated in a volunteer day to help build a new home for Habitat for Humanity.
H.I.M. Winston-Salem has also had a positive impact on the local economy by bringing more jobs to the area. According to Dennis Pollard, vice president, Manufacturing, what started with the intention to fill 498 jobs turned into nearly 1,000 employees; and we are looking to hire almost 100 more. Open positions include manufacturing associates, warehouse associates, packaging associates, floor operators, lab associates, chemists, IT professionals (programmers, developers, analysts, cyber security), engineers and project managers.
And the community has taken note of our growth. In October, H.I.M. Winston-Salem was a recipient of the Winston-Salem Urban League’s Premier Employer Award, presented by Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines.
I’m so proud to work for a company that promotes teamwork, a healthy, active life, and getting involved in making a positive impact in the community.
