Certain life changing situations can completely transform your existence, even if you are not at the center of the circumstance itself. Cancer has touched many of my best-loved people. My grandmother was part of a family of 15 brothers and sisters; today, only two are living and the majority passed away from some form of cancer. Dealing with these losses is never easy, but my most challenging moment was when, in October of 2017, my 30 year-old daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer. We were both shocked and scared of what the future may hold, but the lessons we learned by fighting this battle together made us both stronger and brought us closer. Fortunately, my daughter beat the disease and is now in remission.
Our battle with this disease is an all too familiar situation for many families. According to the American Cancer Association, in 2018 in the U.S., there will be an estimated 1,735,350 new cancer cases. Of those, the highest number (268,670) will be breast cancer in both men and women. There is only so much we can control, but we can focus on what is actually in our hands: raising awareness and promoting ways to prevent disease.
This is why I am honored to make an announcement that warms my heart: Herbalife Nutrition is supporting the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help bring awareness and raise funds for continued cancer research. In addition to a $250,000 donation, the Company will rally its employees, independent distributors, and customers across North America to get involved, and together make a difference. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Company will honor those who have and continue to battle breast cancer by turning its website, social media, packaging, and building signage at its LA Live headquarters and Torrance offices pink for the month of October.
Furthermore, Herbalife Nutrition independent distributors and preferred members located in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are supporting this cause by making donations through the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation and by purchasing limited edition pink sports bottles. The money raised will go to ACS to support breast cancer education programs, advocacy efforts, research, and programs for patients and caregivers.
There is a commonality with The American Cancer Society and Herbalife Nutrition. The American Cancer Society brings communities together to help raise awareness and educate the public on early detection, nutrition and overall support. Herbalife Nutrition brings communities together to bring awareness and education on the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle for overall health.
This disease is fought through awareness and with great research and medicine, but also the human spirit—we can always find support in one another. And that is what the American Cancer Society and Herbalife Nutrition celebrate this month and always.
The American Cancer Society does not endorse or promote any Herbalife Nutrition products or services. Most dietary supplements, including Herbalife Nutrition products, have not been shown to be beneficial for the prevention or treatment of cancer. People undergoing cancer treatment should check with their health care provider before using any dietary supplement.
